  • frugal Sarah says, tips and tricks to cut corners in your budget
  • parenting updates, milestones and monthly posts about the ages my girls are at
  • personal posts about bootcamp and weightloss

Anything else you would like to see on the blog? Going forward, when its all new and shiny?

Moving my blog.

Right, so in case you didn't know, I am going to be an attendee at the inaugural Australian Bloggers Conference which is happening here in Sydney next month. Its an incredibly exciting event and hopefully the start of great things in the world of blogging here in Australia.

Its also been a source of some confusion for me, you see I never set out to become a "blogger". I just wanted an easy way to share photos and stories of my baby girl when we left the UK over four years ago. But then slowly blogging became a lot more than just an online diary and I started to make friends.

I am still fairly incognito in the blogging world, I don't comment that much and when I do, I don't usually leave my website details. Its a kind of shyness as well as a sense of self-preservation. My blog has been a place for me to write about my children, my family, my private life - all directed at close friends and family, not internet strangers. But there comes a time when some of those internet strangers became friends and now the lines are blurred.

So, in thinking about the conference and meeting so many other bloggers, some of whom I follow and comment on, some of whom I know in real life, some of whom I idolise and can't wait to meet, I think its time for a change. I would like to be able to proudly share my blog name and website address and be happy passing out my contact information without having to go into an awkward explanation of why I don't advertise myself, or join in blog carnivals, or count stats and subscribers.

To cut to the chase, I am going to move my blogger blog over to self-hosted wordpress blog and I need your advice. I know that some of you who read here have done this and I would love some advice and suggestions about how to proceed. I am not afraid of the move, I mean I set up and manage my photography business website on wordpress and that wasn't too complicated but some of my more specific questions are:

  1. I already have a user name and log on for dreamhost where I host my business website, should I just add another domain hosting package and free domain registration there to make managing both my personal and business site easier?
  2. what domain name should I go with and should I use www or not?
  3. where should I host my photographs going forward for using in my wordpress blog? Currently every photo I have ever uploaded to my blogger blog are stored on picasa, do I need to use flickr or not?
  4. what theme should I pick, there are so many that I just can't make a decision, should I purchase one or just start off using the free themes offered?
And thats just for starters. So, if anyone is willing to help and offer some suggestions, I would be most grateful!

Cooling down.....

Its hot, seriously hot. About 42 degrees outside, the only way to get cool is to get wet!

Zoo.

This blog needs an overhaul. I have loads to post and lots to write about but can't summon the enthusiasm. I think its time for a change, what do you say? New blog, new domain name, new hosting platform? Do I have the energy to change it all?

Not sure. I am so damn hot I can't think about anything right now. Its the 7th day in a row that the temperature has been above 30 degrees, 5th day in a row that its been above 35 degrees. Its hot. Our airconditioner has been running all day and most of the night for a week now and I am starting to stress big time about the electricity bill.

So, I have a long post in draft about our camping trip last weekend, lots of photos to edit which is taking me some time because I have had to move my "office" out into the living room as our bedroom is a sauna.

In the meantime, here are some photos from a spur of the moment trip to the zoo yesterday. I bought half price annual passes at Christmas for Amy and myself, Stella is still free. We have been using a reward chart with Amy again since the beginning of the year. She has to get ten stickers in a row for good behaviour and then she gets a big reward, first one was a trip to the zoo, the second one is a trip to the Aquatic centre to have a play on the waterslides and the third one is a trip back to the zoo to see the seal show. She is really excited about the opportunity to be rewarded for good behaviour and often comes up with suggestions of her own to earn a sticker. More about that another time.

New hair.

I did post this on facebook but this is for Mum!

I am loving my new hair, I had it cut on Thursday last week, its super short at the back, the tendril type bits tuck behind my ear when I am busy and it takes me two minutes to wash it and dry it. Love, love, love! Now if I could just remember the name of the hairdresser that cut it!

Happy Anniversary!

Today Ron and I are celebrating our seven year wedding anniversary. Ron suprised me with beautiful flowers and this evening we cooked a delicious rib eye steak and served it with a fresh spinach salad with sundried tomatos, red onion, pine nuts and feta cheese. Just when I thought that was it, he brought out another gift, a complete desk set of beautiful accessories for my new workspace in the bedroom, a letter holder, note pad, docking station for my mobile and cameras and a pen holder. Apparently on the modern anniversary gift guide, desk sets are the thing for seven years of marriage.

I am very lucky to be married to someone whom I love and enjoy spending time with, Ron and I argue less, love more and enjoy each other's company more each year we are married. He is a wondeful dad to our girls and a fantastic, engaged and fun husband. I couldn't be more lucky!

The wedding story.

What happened last year? Did we forget our anniversary? I can't remember, my brain hurts.

Happy 7th Anniversary babe, may there be many more. Love you xx S
